COVID-19 Lockdown Has Brought About a Pandemic of Depression

Bashir is a regular student of class XI. He always likes to go to college. But since the Coronavirus spread in Bangladesh, his college was closed though it reopened on 12 September 2021. He could not go outside let alone meet his friends because of lockdown in his area. He had to stay confined to his home the whole day. He couldn't play cricket in the field with his friends, because everyone was trapped at home like him. He couldn't do things the way he used to do before. All the things he liked to do revolve around one thing - how to remain safe from COVID-19.

All these were creating extra pressure on him. He knew that his college was closed to keep the students safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. But staying days after days in a small apartment had ushered in a different set of problems for him. He was suffering from anxiety and depression. Often, he felt overwhelmed, thinking about that one of his family members or friends might be affected by coronavirus. Sometimes, he became worried that he might be falling behind academically. He worried that his college might never open, and so, he would fail in the examination.

He started worrying about almost everything. As a result, he gradually sank into depression. He neither ate nor slept in time. Nor he could pay attention to his studies. Noticing the change in his behaviour, his parents talked to him and convinced him that he has nothing to worry about. His joys knew no bound when his college reopened. Now , he is spending a normal life.
