Dhaka Metro Rail Project
Dhaka Metro Rail is an approved mass rapid transit system under construction in Dhaka. With a view to improving traffic in Dhaka city, its first formal trial ran in Dhaka's Mirpur area on Sunday, August 29, 2021. In 2012, the Government's Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the project. The project is being implemented adhering to the Time-bound Action Plan 2030 under Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
Metro rail paragraph
The total length of the Mass Rapid Transit or Metro Rail Network is 128.741 kilometers. Out of this total length, 67.569 kilometers will be elevated and 61.172 will be underground. There will be 104 stations. Out of these total stations, 51 will be elevated and 53 will be underground. Dhaka Metro is projected to serve more than 60,000 passengers per hour by 2022, with wait-times of approximately 4 minutes. People will be able to travel the entire route in less than 40 minutes at a speed of 100 km/h (62 mph). The system plans to use magnetic contactless Integrated Circuit Ticketing commonly also known as smart cards.
Platform screen door (PSD) barriers used at the platform level will increase safety and efficiency. The project's mission is to reduce the traffic congestion by providing fast, safe, reliable, air-conditioned, time saving electricity driven, environment-friendly, remote controlled state-of-the-art public transport system, for Dhaka city and its adjoining areas. Therefore, it is expected that the successful completion of the project will drastically reduce the number of private cars on Dhaka's streets as well as their potentially 7-hour-long standstills.
